Talking back …
Donald Trump overruled DHS’ attempts to clean up ICE’s act on Wednesday, freaking out at the idea that chaotic and deadly traffic stops might come to an end. If even that incremental reform is beyond the pale, what should future administrations do about these poorly trained goon squads? I’ve shared my own thoughts plenty …
… but Crash Course readers had their own ideas.
“The entire body of thinking around ICE needs re-thinking. We also desperately need need to update our immigration policy, despite what MAGA thinks.”
“ Take away their guns and the killing will stop. Just altering their policies - no car chases, for example - won’t fix the underlying problem. Which is that immigration enforcement should not require guns. Guns are for killing people. Bad people. People who are threats to the cops. But ICE agents are not cops. And immigrants are not threatening or dangerous criminals. So why are ICE agents armed with guns? This is insanity.
“ICE needs to go. They are murderous thugs.”
