Newsom requests restraining order on Trump, Hegseth use of military
The California governor unsuccessfully asked a court for a restraining order that would keep recently deployed Marines and National Guard members from taking part in law enforcement actions. Stephen Miller is a White House supremacist
American history is chock-full of people willing to use the concept of “states’ rights” to oppress the non-white, non-landowning and non-male. Stephen Miller’s white nationalism is in line with those goals, but he’s no student of history.
The White House deputy chief of staff is the mastermind behind Trump’s mass deportation program and he’s willing to torpedo the power of states to handle their own affairs to see it through.
Miller has spent the last several days tearing into California Gov. Gavin Newsom over ongoing protests of ICE raids in Los Angeles. As the governor unsuccessfully attempted to block the Trump admin from deploying members of the military to assist ICE, the Santa Monica-born Miller fantasized about a mythical California without Latin Americans. In a little more than 14 words posted to social media, Miller said that California was once a “paradise” and that “mass migration” had destroyed the state.
Miller will spend the coming days pretending he believes in the law of the land, but his push to vest all power in the president shows makes it clear he doesn’t care much about the Constitution, beyond the complexion of the people who wrote it.
What do you think? Will the Trump White House put an end to the “states’ rights” defense once and for all? Will Trump face any consequences for unleashing the military on the streets of Los Angeles? Sound off in the comments.
