Donald Trump continued the world’s most nail-biting “will they-won’t they?” over the weekend. Shortly after sharing that a deal to end the war with Iran was imminent, the president said he’d told his subordinates “not to rush” a treaty to close the conflict.

On Saturday, Trump said a deal was “largely negotiated” and the Strait of Hormuz would soon be opened. As anonymous statements from Trump admin officials leaked out on Sunday backing his version of events, Trump put a damper on the preemptive celebrations and reversed course.

“Nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet,” he wrote on Truth Social.

To be fair to the Donald, it’s been a busy weekend. Even excluding a shooting near the White House and the resignation of his Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, his oldest son got married. Even if Trump wasn’t there, we can’t deny he had a lot to think about closer to home than Tehran.
